The Global Citizen provides diverse perspectives on world culture, travel, business, and politics through creative media. We believe everyone has the power to be an informed Global citizen.

Our Vision

The Global Citizen believes that in order to make sustainable, long-term improvements in the world, we must start by recognizing our shared humanity. Doing so goes beyond simply analyzing international headlines, but also sharing the stories often left out of mainstream, traditional media. We hope that our work inspires people to travel the world themselves, empathize with new communities, and realize how truly similar and interconnected we truly are.

“Meditate often on the interconnectedness and mutual interdependence of all things in the universe. All things are mutually woven together and therefore have an affinity for each other—for one thing follows after another according to their tension of movement, their sympathetic stirrings, and the unity of all substance.”

—Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 6.38

Our Values

At The Global Citizen, we prioritize diversity above all else. Diversity of background, thought, and style. Only in an environment that supports collaboration and welcomes diverse perspectives are we able to effectively share the most valubale content to the world.

history

In 2019, a group of 4 UC Berkeley students passionate about international relations and traveling rediscovered a discontinued UC Berkeley student organization called “The Global Citizen” and became inspired by the idea of what it meant to be a truly “global citizen.”

Since, The Global Citizen has completely revitalized its platform and has a growing team of 20 writers and editors of both international and domestic students at UC Berkeley. We’re funded in full by the UC Berkeley ASUC which gives us the freedom and agency we need to focus on recruiting, publishing, researching, and ultimately, sharing our passions with you. 2020 will be the first year where we expand to more university campuses across the world.

On campus Activites

At UC Berkeley, The Global Citizen is highly active on campus as a tight-knit community. In addition to general meetings, all our members are part of “editor groups” where they brainstorm and develop their ideas for The Global Citizen and organize socials together in more informal settings. Outside of The Global Citizen, we participate in a host of other activities together, such as UCBMUN, tennis, and getting Chipotle together. We also co-sponsor several activities each year in collaboration with other cultural organziations and the International Relations Council of Berkeley which are all open to the public - you can find a full list of events on our "Events” page.
